The rentals at Virgin Gorda are ideal for a relaxing holiday in the British Virgin Islands. The dive sites in and around Virgin Gorda are excellent, and each one comes with a distinct personality of its own. Visibility is excellent in these waters, and, apart from intriguing wrecks and lush coral reefs, you will also get to see many different kinds of fish in all possible colors and sizes. Your Virgin Gorda vacation home is the perfect place from where you can access all the top dive sites.
The Aquarium
This 35-foot dive site is like The Baths, and you will find the same kind of granite boulders on the shallow sand-covered bottom of this site. The site gets its name from the wide variety of reef fish found here, and it is the most varied you can find anywhere on the British Virgin Islands dive sites. Since the site is not deep, you can explore the crevices and look for snappers, grunts, angelfish, stingray and lobsters.
Coral Gardens
This is a traditional coral reef you will find on the southern part of Great Dog. The Coral Gardens/Airplane Wreck site is suitable for novice divers, since the dive range goes from 30 to 50 feet. The alternate name comes from the fuselage of a commuter plane that rests underwater, adding plenty of character to the reef. You will find barracuda, lobster and reef fish in these waters.
Mountain Point
There are 3 different moorings in this reef, starting at 25 feet, with a maximum of 70 feet at the slope. The landscape is varied, with grottos, patches of sand and huge coral heads. The sand patches are usually frequented by lizard fish and stingrays. If you are an expert diver, you can wriggle your way through the narrow gaps between the rocks. Plenty of fish are to be found here, including barracudas, grunts, parrot fish, eels and butterfly fish.
The Chimney
A popular dive site that ranges between 30 and 40 feet, the visuals here are fantastic. There is one canyon in particular, where the walls come together in the shape of a bright and beautiful archway, with sponges in all colors and cup corals in lovely shades of orange. Remember to carry a light with you, so you will be able to see all the colors distinctly.
The Visibles and The Invisibles
The Invisibles is a 60-foot advanced dive, with strong currents that bring in huge quantities of fish. The site looks stunning with a pinnacle that rises to less than 4 feet, and sponges and soft corals add rich colors to the place. The Visibles at 40 to 80 feet, are also challenging due to strong currents. You are likely to run into blue striped grunts, schooling barracuda, permit, tarpon, horse-eye jacks, reef shark, spade fish and eagle rays in these waters.
