Museum  International d'Art Naif Anatole Jakovsky

Located in a castle is the Anatole Jakovsky International Museum of Art. All of the museum's 600 paintings was donated by the art critic, Anatole Jakovsky, and some are from the 17th and 18th centuries. Unlike some of the art museums in Nice, artists from all over the world created paintings featured in the International museum. All of the paintings are original artworks and were part of one of the largest private art collections in the world.

The museum is open daily, and admission is free. A visit to this museum should be a fun day trip from your Nice vacation home.

Centre National d'Art Contemporain de la Villa Arson

Started in 1986, the Villa Arson is the official national center for contemporary art. This museum is cutting edge and only features two types of exhibitions: theme exhibitions and solo exhibitions.

Each thematic exhibition deals with a particular historic period or a genre of art. One example of thematic exhibitions at Villa Arson was the ?oA Half Square, Half A Fool exhibit. This exhibit revisited minimalist art and how it has changed throughout the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries.

The solo exhibitions all feature work by different artists that center around a particular concept. Each solo artist creates his or her interpretation of that concept in his or her artwork. Unlike the thematic exhibitions, these solo exhibits are one large exhibit that is made up of two to three smaller exhibits. These exhibits seek to compare and contrast different artistic perspectives.

Admission is free, and visitors also have access to art gardens and terraces.

Massena Museum

The Massena Museum is housed in a villa that dates back to 1901. Originally, the villa was a private residence, but in 1921, it was donated to the regional government and became a museum. It is named the Massena Museum because the architect, Andre Massena, designed the villa.

Mostly, the museum is dedicated to preserving the history of Nice. The museum's first floor traces Nice history from 1792 to 1859; the second floor traces the city's history from 1860 to 1914. Also, the museum has a wing dedicated to Massena and the history of Nice's urban development. Temporary and ever-changing exhibits featuring works by local writers, artists and musicians are also on display.

The museum is surrounded by public English-style gardens. Admission to the museum and the parks is always free.
