Staying at one of the Nice villa rentals will not only give you access to the great attractions in this city but will also bring you within close proximity to its different districts, each with its own landmark. The city of Nice is located on the French Riviera, which is one of the most visited locations in France.
The Old Town
Although Nice is more known for its Promenade des Anglais, there are several districts in this city that you should not miss out on, including the Old Town. Vieux-Nice, or the Old Town, is lined with colorful houses on winding, picturesque streets. This part of Nice will give you an idea of what the city looked like before the influx of tourists came in, with its Baroque-style churches, squares and colorful markets. While at the Old Town, don't forget to pass by Chapelle de la Misericorde, built in 1740. This magnificent Baroque structure is a great testament of how opulent the residents were in Nice during the 18th century. Aside from the Chapelle de la Misericorde, you should also visit the Chapelle de l'Annonciation on Rue de la Poissonerie, Palais Lascaris and Cathedrale Sainte Reparate. At the Old Town, there are numerous local restaurants that you can choose from, most of which have been operational even before the ones on the Promenade. Make it a point to go to the Old Town's markets to give you an opportunity to mingle with the locals and sample some of the area's fresh poduce.
Place Massena
From your Nice vacation home, walk over to the town center, called Place Massena by the locals. From the Promenade, the Town Center is just two minutes by foot. This neighborhood is a great place to go on a tour with the several beautiful buildings that surround it. The main feature of the town center, however, is the red colored buildings that surround it. From the Place Massena, you can visit several local attractions like the Albert I Gardens which houses the black metal Arc de Venet, and the Massena Gardens which is a favorite hangout of the locals. The garden is filled with palm and pine trees.
Cimiez
One of the most exclusive neighborhoods in Nice is situated on the hilltop. The Cimiez, although considered to be a posh area, has a great history which is evident from the many ruins found in the neighborhood. Take the time to go up to this neighborhood and check out the ruins of a Roman arena, as well as the ruins of the Roman baths. However, the coup de grace is the Roman amphitheatre which is still being used and is the venue for the annual Jazz Festival of Nice. There is also a museum in Cimiez which is dedicated to the famous artist Matisse.
Mont Boron
Just like Cimiez, Mont Boron is a posh neighborhood in Nice. It is located on the Est-Littoral on a mountain on the east side of the city. Although it is more of a residential area, the drive up to Mont Boron is well worth the effort just for the view. From this location, you will get a magnificent, picturesque view of Nice, particularly the Promenade. On your way to Mont Boron, do not forget to visit the Terra Amata Museum of Paleontology, where the prehistoric relics of the region are displayed.
