A Guide to Vacation Rentals, plus Swim & Explore Beautiful Beaches

Swim and explore beautiful beaches while staying at one of many available Cozumel vacation rentals. Cozumel, a Caribbean island off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, is part of Quintana Roo. This popular tourist destination is known for its snorkeling and scuba diving, as it's home to some pretty amazing tidal pools and reefs. It's become quite popular in recent years with Spring Breakers, but it's also great for couples and even families who want to explore the many natural beauties that abound here. The beaches in particular are a big draw in themselves, with many miles featuring numerous beaches. Each one has its own special uniqueness: some are great for families, while others are set back and secluded, perfect for couples.

Must-See Spots

Each beach is known for something different. Sunset Beach is best for, you guessed it, viewing sunsets. Located closest to the main town of San Miguel Cozumel, Sunset Beach has various rental vendors where you can rent diving, scuba, and snorkeling equipment. Grab a bite to eat, play in the water and enjoy the views of the Caribbean Sea. This place has some of the best shore diving on the island, so take advantage while here. It's also one of the best beaches for snorkeling, so be sure to bring along some gear or rent some.

The crowds tend to head to Paradise Beach, but if you like lots of action, then this is a good thing. There are lots of things to occupy your time here, from swimming to watersports to sand play. There are plenty of clean bathrooms, showers, shops and rental providers of kayaks and such. There's even a trampoline, water iceberg and palm tree climbing, similar to rock climbing. If you like clean amenities, lots of action and plenty to see and do, this is the beach for you.

Peace and Quiet

If you prefer the solitude of quieter shores, try Playa Bonita on the windward side in Rancho Ixpalbarco. Its pristine sands and romantic feel will make you think you're the only ones around. Added bonus: check out the authentic Mayan ruin while visiting. Playa Corona is hit or miss in terms of solitude. This small beach may be packed with snorkelers getting ready to go on an excursion, or it may be bare. Try your luck and you may be rewarded with amazing views and lots of quiet.

Local Flavor

The locals love Playa Palancar on the leeward side of the island, featuring a fun palapa dining area that serves up some spectacular fish tacos. Tropical foliage provides the backdrop for this scenic beach, peppered with hammocks and palapas for your enjoyment. Take a diving trip from here to the Columbia and Palancar reefs, or just rest in the shade.
