Festivals & Fairs Await, and a Lisbon Apartment Rentals Guide

Lisbon is the capital city of Portugal; and people come to the city to enjoy activities such as shopping, sightseeing, fine dining and bicycling. Since it offers so many fun activities, Lisbon is a popular vacation spot.

Winter Festivals and Fairs

Every January, Lisbon hosts the Festival of Kadampa Buddhism. This festival focuses on the meditation and teachings of Kadampa Buddhism. In Lisbon's Buddhist Centre Deuachen, the International Kadampa Buddhist Union presents three days of teaching and celebrations. The festival begins with an initiation ceremony, and teachings are given in both English and Portuguese. Registration is required.

In either February or March, the International Festival of Classic Guitar is held. The weeklong festival is the celebration of classic guitar and traditional Portuguese guitar performances are given. In addition to performances, the festival offers classes and competitions for classic guitarists. A registration fee is required.

A visit to either of these festivals would be a nice day trip from your Lisbon rental property.

Spring Festivals and Fairs

The Indie Lisboa is held every April, and it celebrates independent films. The film festival is divided into sections. One section of the festival focuses on international shorts and feature-length films that have never been publicly screened in Portugal. Another section focuses on Portuguese shorts and films. The rest of the festival includes work by up-and-coming filmmakers, youth filmmakers and musically focused documentaries. Indie Lisboa is a week-long festival and ticket purchases are required.

From May to June, Lisbon has the Feira do Livro. This book fair is held in Eduardo VII Park, which is a central Lisbon location. Visitors to the fair can buy books and meet many authors. This fair is popular with the locals and is a great opportunity to experience Lisbon culture. Admission to the fair is free.

Summer Festivals and Fairs

The Semanas de Musica do Estoril is another one of Lisbon's two-month festivals. From the beginning of July to the end of August, symphony orchestras and choirs from Portugal give performances. These performances take place in prestigious Lisbon buildings, which include the Lisbon Cathedral and the Coliseum of Lisbon. Ticket purchases are required.

The Estoril Crafts Fair is held from late July to early September. Held in the market area near the Casino Estoril, this craft fair is also a local favorite. Visitors can buy Portuguese arts and crafts and interact with many of Lisbon's residents. Admission is free.

Fall Festivals and Fairs

Every September, Lisbon hosts the Festival Regional de Gastronomia de Leiria. The festival takes place throughout the month. Many Lisbon restaurants participate, and visitors have a chance to try the best of Portuguese cuisine. Reduced and prix fixe menus are offered.
