2. Tomato Fiesta
If you are staying at one of the Valencia vacation homes, drive over to Buñol, which is near the city, to attend the infamous Tomato Fiesta. The Tomato Fiesta is held every August, and thousands of visitors flock the city of Buñol to attend the event. The festival began in 1945 and has grown to be one of the most anticipated events in Spain. A few days before the main event, expect to find a lot of party, concerts and street dancing. However, the highlight of the festival is the Tomato Fight which begins at 11 a.m. and lasts until 1 p.m. on the last day of the festival. Thousands of kilos of tomatoes are used during the fight, which begins by blasting 5 tomato-filled rockets into the air.
3. Cabalgata de Reyes
The Cabalgata de Reyes or the Parade of the Holy Three Kings is an event held on the 5th of January. During this event, 3 local men dress up as the Three Kings. They walk around the city center where they give out gifts and sweets to the children. Also known as the Ride of the Reyes, this event honors the 3 kings who travelled from different parts of the world to honor baby Jesus.
4. Feria de Julio
Every July, Valencia holds a huge celebration called Feria de Julio. This month-long celebration features numerous concerts, fiestas, theatre performances, bullfighting events, sports and open-air cinemas. Traditionally, the Feria de Julio or July Fair was initiated by the local government to keep the citizens from leaving town to escape the humidity and heat. Today, the July Fair is one of the most anticipated events in the city. All of the activities are held outdoors featuring the different gardens and parks the city has to offer.
