Carlsbad vacation rentals are the perfect place to keep your toes in the sand and your head in the sky. The coastal city of Southern California is a pristine location for more than just sunning, surfing and swimming. It is also just minutes from one of California's most noted theme parks. Legoland is less than 2 miles away, and when you push your search boundaries out just a bit farther, you'll find even more adventure at theme parks nearby.
LegoLand
What child hasn't played architect while building with those brightly colored plastic blocks we know as Legos? Legoland is the premier draw to the Carlsbad area. There are 3 parks within its limits, presenting each a unique and fun day of adventure and discovery. Here is a breakdown of what you can expect in each area of the park.
LegoLand Main Park is the original city made of Lego building blocks. There are many rides and roller coasters that tower here, but the park is perhaps best known for the mini-city. This area of the park displays Lego creations of many famous U.S. city icons built to perfect in a 1:20 scale. There are Las Vegas, New Orleans, New York, San Francisco and a quaint New England city scapes here. You can even get inside a life-sized boat made of Legos and sail along the coastline. Aside from all the quirky art reproductions, you'll also find many large-scale rides, food and other amusements to keep you busy. In 2010, ticket prices are $67 per adult and $57 per child ages 3 to 12 or senior citizen over 60.
LegoLand "SeaLife" Aquarium is located just next door to the main park. You'll find hours of interactive play and learning at this aquarium, as well as a fun shark show and feeding daily. In 2010, tickets are $19 per adult and $12 per child.
LegoLand Waterpark is a unique park addition featuring 8 water rides. The best feature is the build-a-raft river, where you use over-sized lego blocks to build a float to meander through a river. In 2010, tickets for this park must be purchased as part of a combination pack with at least 1 other park. To visit the main park and the water park, prices are $79 per adult and $69 per child. To visit all three LegoLand parks, you'll pay $87 per adult and $77 per child.
Sea World, San Diego
Located just south of Carlsbad is famed Sea World, San Diego. Here you'll find rides and a large scale marine environment including whales on display.
