This lake has a host of summer activities to offer. The lake itself is 3 miles long, 1 mile wide and approximately 400 feet deep. Visitors can fish, swim, motorboat, canoe and sail on the lake. Along the southern shoreline is a sandy beach, where people can sunbathe or build sand castles. On the eastern shoreline is the entrance to the Glen Alpine Trailhead. The lake's grounds are open daily.
Emerald Bay State Park
Emerald Bay State Park is another locale for enjoying summer activities. In 1969, the park was designated a National Natural Landmark, and it has a beautiful panorama made for nature watching. In the center of the park is Emerald Bay, which has a boating dock and areas designated for swimming, boating, canoeing and fishing. The park has rugged trails for mountain biking and hiking. Picnic table areas are also in the park. Emerald Bay State Park is open daily.
