Port Charlotte vacation rentals give you the opportunity of taking advantage of everything that this popular area on Florida's Gulf Coast has to offer. One of the biggest reasons to visit here is for the golf--Port Charlotte and the surrounding area boast over 20 challenging and picturesque courses. Golf Digest ranked the area as the third best in the country to live and play golf. However, if you aren't a golfer, there is plenty to see and do here, including beaches, shopping and nightlife and easy access to central Florida's biggest attractions--Orlando and Walt Disney World are about a two and a half hour drive from the Port Charlotte area. Even if you don't break 80, it's difficult not to enjoy a Port Charlotte vacation rental with all the golf and other attractions the area has to offer. If putt-putt golf is more your style, the Port Charlotte area offers several well designed and challenging miniature golf courses, providing a fun day out for all the family.
Which Course?
The local tourist office can give you a list of courses, so you can find one that suits your budget and level of skill. It's a matter of opinion which course is the best; however, the Deep Creek club has been voted the number one club for seven consecutive years. The course was designed by Mark McCumber and features natural landscaping, an abundance of local wildlife and some tricky water hazards. Most area courses have pars in the 70s, but if a shorter game is more your style, several feature par three holes--the Maple Leaf Golf and Country Club, for example, has ten par three holes, eight par four holes and a yardage of just 4,000.
Four and a Half Stars
Two local courses have been awarded the coveted four and a half star rating by Golf Digest: Bobcat Trail and Riverwood Golf Club. Bobcat Trail was carefully designed by Bob Tway to provide good drainage, even after heavy rain, and features elevated, undulating greens and rolling fairways. It was voted one of the top 30 public courses in Florida. The course has a par of 71 and also prides itself on its well stocked golf shop. Riverwood is a par 72 course and makes excellent use of the natural terrain; the back nine are played amidst picturesque wetlands and salt marsh. Both clubs welcome visitors and ensure that you will have a memorable round.
Beyond Port Charlotte
Depending on just how far you want to drive from your Port Charlotte vacation rental for a round of golf, the surrounding area offers even more great golf opportunities. An easy drive south on I-75 is the Fort Myers area, home to dozens of great courses. Many of the courses here make full use of the surrounding water, both as scenery and a natural hazard. And north of Port Charlotte, Sarasota offers over 30 courses and another 20 or so in the surrounding area.
