One of the best Florida destinations is a Daytona Beach vacation rental. Not only are there a lot of exciting activities surrounding the city, but several of these activities are free.
Angell & Phelps Chocolate Factory Tour
Angell and Phelps Chocolate Factory has been located in downtown Daytona Beach since 1925 and they have been making their chocolate treats the same way ever since. Visitors can view the art of making chocolate through the free factory tour at Angell and Phelps. Large cottage-style windows provide viewing access into the actual place that makes all the sweet treats. From the first stages of the candy making process to the tasty end results, guests can see it all. A history of candy and chocolate making and how the company was started is provided during the tour. The best part of the tour is the free sample given at the end. Tours take place Monday through Friday at 10:00 am, 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm, 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm. Each tour lasts approximately 30 minutes.
Ormond Memorial Art Museum & Gardens
Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens is located about 15 minutes outside of your Daytona Beach vacation rental. While at the museum, visitors can marvel at the art on display, which is filled with permanent collections and art that changes periodically as different exhibits come into the gallery. Guests can experience the beautiful gardens at the Ormond Memorial. The two and a half acre garden is filled with lush native and exotic plants. Water features, such as soothing waterfalls, and a large gazebo are also components in the garden. A monument exists on the property, commemorating WWI soldiers from the area. The Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens are free to explore and are open weekdays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Sun Splash Park
Sun Splash Park in Daytona Beach is full of free fun. The area is a park located close to the beach and there are actually several beach access points within Sun Splash. The park has beautiful walkways and several pavilions with picnic tables set up throughout the attractions. The biggest draw to the Sun Splash Park is the interactive fountains. Travelers, especially little children, will love racing in and out of the shooting sprays of water. Volleyball nets and a playground are additional activities available at the park. Restrooms and outdoor showers are on site.
The Casements
The Casements was once the home of John F. Rockefeller and today serves as the cultural center for Ormond Beach. The architecturally adventurous building, which you'll be talking about long after you return to your vacation rental, hosts many art classes and special events. The Casements is also the home to many rotating exhibits and a gift shop. Guided tours of the building are provided throughout the day and it is free to explore. The Casements is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. The center closes at noon on Saturdays.
