Thomas Edison and Henry Ford Winter Estates
Many visitors don't realize that these important men both had winter homes in Fort Meyers. Both homes are open every day with the exception of Thanksgiving and Christmas. They are close to your Englewood rental property. Extended tours of the homes are given. Botanical tours of the gardens are available by request, and you have the option of self-touring them. The museum provides a lot of interesting background information on the estates and the lives of their owners. Edison's laboratory is one of the most popular parts of the tour by far. A store lets you pick up souvenirs to keep as mementos of your visit.
Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium
This property is located on 150 acres, offering lots of room for exploration. The nature trails are perfect for those who want to enjoy the outdoors, and there are picnic grounds available. The museum has daily interactive programs about the center's animals. You can even interact with some of them, including birds, snakes, butterflies and even alligators. There are also exhibits dedicated to Southwest Florida's natural history. The planetarium is one of the very best places to learn more about our galaxy. The center is open every day.
Imaginarium Hands-On Museum
The museum is open every day and is one of the best destinations for families. More than 60 exhibits are available at any given time. There is an aquarium, touch pool, preschool play area and hurricane simulator. Weather and the environment are the main focus of most of the exhibits. The museum's location is just off of Martin Luther King Boulevard, making it easily accessible to most vacation homes.
Fort Meyers Historical Museum
The museum is open every day except for Monday. It's located downtown in a former railroad depot, so it's pretty easy to spot. Either guided or self-tours are available to patrons. A private Pullman rail car is available for your inspection. There are several artifacts and exhibits related to the local tribes of the area, including the Seminole people. An authentic frontier house is also located on the grounds of the museum.
First United Methodist Church
This is a historic church that's located in downtown Fort Meyers. It was the first church in Fort Meyers to offer regular services, and has existed continuously since the 1870s. Many of the original furnishings are still in place, and the church has an excellent pipe organ. On Sundays, the church has traditional and contemporary worship.
