It treats birds that get stuck in fishing lines and several other injuries. Over 30 birds are rescued and admitted here each day and above 90% of the birds are successfully released back into the wild. Admission to this sanctuary is free and they also offer free educationally-guided tours on Wednesdays and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. This is an ideal place for bird watching; so do carry your binoculars. One can spot the songbirds, egrets, and several seabirds along with the eastern brown pelican which is the sanctuary's biggest success story. The numbers of these pelicans were dwindling; the sanctuary started captive breeding of the species and the numbers have never looked south ever since. There are several gift shops and an observation desk here. This sanctuary is supported solely by donations.

Clearwater Marine Aquarium

Clearwater Marine Aquarium is located north of the Indian Rocks Beach rental. It is a rehabilitation center for marine animals. It is one of the eight centers in the US authorized to rescue and rehabilitate marine life. You can learn the behavior of all animals including loggerhead sea turtles, sting rays, river otters, local fish and coral reefs. All the animals from river otters to dolphins to turtles, which are sick, are bought here and treated. Once these animals recover and are able to manage themselves, they are released in the wild. The ones that still need to be kept under observation are retained in this center. There are dolphin shows and presentations throughout the day. For a small fee, you can pet and feed dolphins. There is an entry charge for the Clearwater Marine aquarium and all the proceeds go towards rescuing and rehabilitation of the animals. Among other things, one could also adopt a nesting site of turtles to ensure that this endangered species does survive.
