Back to the Outdoor Basics
Bull Creek is one of the best ways to truly experience the natural Florida wilderness. It is a gorgeous wilderness location in Holopaw, which is about 30 minutes from Kissimmee. It's a campground and hunting area, but it is really much more than that. Other activities at Bull Creek include photography, hiking, fishing and riding ATVs. After traveling down the long dirt road complete with several turns and a few roadside homes, visitors will be met with a small entrance into the actual area. Guests must sign in prior to entering and sign out once they leave, so park officials can monitor the area. Visitors can travel in their own vehicle or in ATVs around the property. A large lake lined with cypress trees is great for fishing from the bank. It's not a great place to swim, because alligators frequent the area. Bull Creek is a dramatic change from the commercialized area around most vacation homes and visitors will enjoy their short time there.
Celebrate the Wonder of Celebration
Celebration is a full-functioning town about 30 minutes from downtown Kissimmee. It was created to mirror ideals from a vintage small town, yet still be a modern working city. Well landscaped lawns separate sidewalks from porch-lined homes, and store-fronts are filled with perfectly-placed items. Everything in Celebration is gorgeous, but in the most simple of ways. Visitors can park in one of the parking lots throughout Celebration and walk to wherever they choose to explore in the striking town. You can admire the beautiful buildings and homes, take a stroll around the lake or browse the stores down main street. There are also some delightful cafes and restaurants scattered about. The ice cream parlor is a treat among treats. If you're staying in Kissimmee rentals during the winter, be sure to visit Celebration because the town hosts many winter events. Snow (soap suds) fall on main street every hour. It's really a special place for visitors to enjoy, especially couples and families.
Airboat Adventures
Lone Cabbage Fish Camp is located about 45 minutes from Kissimmee. It's a restaurant bar on the bank of the St. Johns River. There is a certain raw charm about Lone Cabbage. Visitors truly get the sense that they can just relax and enjoy the casual atmosphere. Menu items include Florida classics such as gator tail, frog legs and fried catfish. It's also a great place to grab a cold beer and gaze at the beauty of the St. Johns River. The outdoor patio is the best place to soak in the warm Florida weather. Aside from being a restaurant, Lone Cabbage also offers airboat rides. The largest of the airboats will hold about 15 people. A 30 minute ride will cost adults $22 and children $15. The airboat will take guests through areas where alligators and wading birds frequent, a natural cypress swamp and more great photography sites. A smaller airboat is available for $45 per person. This airboat will go to a few more places and the ride will last a lot longer. All airboat rides start and end at Lone Cabbage.
