Best Courses and Courts in New Smyrna Beach
Hidden Lakes Golf Club is a par 69 18-hole course with a short layout, yet provides adequate length for a regulation. Wide fairways and manageable approach shots with a tee shot over water from 14 makes for a challenging round. If you make the shot at 14, you have a good chance at a low score. Located at 35 Fairgreen Avenue; call (386) 427-4138 to book tee times.
Turnbull Bay is a hidden gem tucked between Turnbull Bay and Spruce Creek Preserve, offering a par 72 with a 6,500 yard layout. Tree lined fairways provide four sets of tees where water and woods come into play. If you hit a good drive and aim at 150 you may be able to birdie on 11. To bring it home at 18 you'll need a good drive to hit over the water and possibly an extra club to the green. Located at 2600 Turnbull Estates Drive, tee times can be made by calling (386) 423-4749.
The Racquet Tennis Center is a facility run completely by volunteers where the motto is, "You don't belong to the club, the club belongs to you." Offering one hard and six clay courts, they're located at 2640 Paige Avenue.
Detwiler Park may be small, but it offers five illuminated courts and reservations aren't required. The best part is there's no charge. For the kids there's a basketball court and playground for their amusement while you play a set. Located at Oakwood Avenue and Horton Street, you're almost guaranteed to meet friendly locals eager to give you the lowdown on the area.
Daytona Beach Courses and Courts
Daytona Beach is less than 30 minutes from New Smyrna Beach vacation homes, with two courses nearly back to back. Club at Pelican Bay features elevated tee boxes and long demanding holes, each with their own challenges. Fairways winding through waterways past pines and bayberry present intimidating views from high tiers at 15, and a gauntlet effect on 8. On the South Course, waterways are kept in play at 15 out of 18 holes with five forced carries. Because of water, fairways demand more precision than length. Guarded by water on the entire right side, holes 16 and 17 can be tricky. Look forward to a memorable finish ending with narrow fairways on 18, a 425 yard dogleg left. Located at 350 Pelican Bay Drive and 550 Sea Duck Drive, respectively, check their website for tee times.
Florida Tennis Center offers a whopping 24 clay hydro-courts and 20 lighted courts for night play. Located at 1 Deuce Court, Suite 200, hours are Monday to Thursday 9am to 9pm, Friday and Saturday 9am to 4pm and Sunday 8am to 1pm.
