In mid-March, the Indian River County Fire Department and the Indian River County volunteers host an annual county fair. This fair is a ten-day event and is held on the county's fairgrounds, which are located in Vero Beach. During the fair, guests can watch chainsaw carving, fire fighting training, comedy or magic shows. They can also participate in rooster crowing, bowling and bingo contests and tournaments. The beauty contest, steer grooming competition, livestock contest and karaoke and barn dancing contest are only open to county residents; however, visitors are welcome to attend. Also during the fair are barbeques and concerts by local bands. Monday through Friday, the fair starts at 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Saturdays, it goes from 1:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., Sundays, from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Ticket purchases are required. Parking is free as are children 6 and under. A visit to this fair would be a fun day trip from your Vero Beach rental property.
The Treasure Coast Wine Festival
Every January, Vero Beach holds a four-day culinary festival. The festival begins with a welcome reception, which is held at the Costa d'Este hotel; and guests feast on fine wine and cuisine. Depending on which package they purchase, guests can spend the second night of the festival dining at a private residence or at a Vero Beach restaurant. Both options include a pairing of a local winery with a world-renowned chef. The third night, the festival hosts a black-tie dinner and auction. The Treasure Coast Wine Festival ends with an afternoon wine tasting. Tickets to individual events are available as are packages for the entire festival. Package pricing depends on whether guests choose the private home or restaurant dining option.
Frog Leg Festival
Located a few miles west in Fellsmere is the Frog Leg Festival. The festival takes place during the second to last weekend in January. The festival serves frog leg dinners to residents and visitors to raise money for the town's children recreational activities and programs. During the festival, guests can eat frog legs, watch live entertainment, ride ponies and take helicopter rides. Admission to the festival is free. Guests must pay for dinners and rides.
The Melbourne Art Festival
Since 2006, Melbourne, Florida has hosted the annual art festival. It is held during the fourth full weekend in April. Guests can attend art workshops, participate in a 5K run, enjoy live musical entertainment or eat cuisine from local vendors. There is also a children's area where they can make arts and crafts, pet animals and watch children's entertainment acts. Art booths and tents are located throughout the festival's grounds. All artwork displayed at the fair is available for purchase. Admission is free.
