There are many beautiful vacation villas available in exotic destinations worldwide. Why settle for an ordinary hotel or resort when you can experience life like a resident in the prime location you select? Take a look at some of our recommended choices for your next great vacation.
Kauai, Hawaii
Should you choose to stay on "The Garden Isle" of Kauai, Hawaii, be sure to explore as many of the natural beauty spots that this island paradise has to offer. The Wailua Falls are a must see for any visitor to the area, but try to get there early before the crowds arrive. Kauai also has many gorgeous beaches to choose from, but to experience the quieter side of life here you might opt for one of the more secluded ones, such as Kahili Quarry Beach on the North Shore. Wildlife lovers should plan on visiting the Kilauea National Wildlife Reserve for some of the best glimpses of rare birds on the island, while the view of the ocean near the historic Kilauea lighthouse is one of the finest available. Kauai villas are often located near some of these scenic areas.
Saly, Senegal
Enjoyed for decades by French and Belgian tourists, the tropical getaway of Saly, Senegal, is barely known among North American and English vacationers. However, this well-kept secret has much to offer the intrepid traveler. The region is home to several resorts and hotels with restaurants specializing in French and local cuisine. Only a few miles away in Somone is a small lagoon where visitors can see flamingos, pelicans and many other exotic birds. Also nearby is the Bandia Nature Reserve, a small but well-maintained safari park that gives wildlife lovers the chance to come close to giraffes, rhino, zebras, monkeys and other native animal species of Africa. While opportunities for windsurfing, jet skiing, deep sea fishing and sailing are readily available, one of the best ways to experience the area is to take a quiet walk or horseback ride along the beach toward Ngaparou, a local fishing village only a few miles up the coast.
Hong Kong, China
Vibrant and bustling Hong Kong is one of the most crowded cities in the world, and yet it is also a place of amazing contrasts. To get a feel of the area, take the tram up Victoria Peak to get a panoramic view of the city, bay and outlying islands. Make time for a leisurely walk among pines, bamboo and ferns by starting at the peak tower and heading west along Lugard Road. Next, take the Star Ferry across Victoria Harbor and then join the crowds of tourists and shoppers who brave the congestion of Nathan Road. After absorbing all of the color and chaos of one of the busiest streets in Hong Kong, escape into the haven of Kowloon Park. The park's beautiful Chinese Garden and calming view of Bird Lake are perfect places to relax before venturing forth again into the swirl of Hong Kong life.
Nice, France
Nice is famous for its Promenade des Anglais, the long road that borders the coast and that gives access to the area's popular beaches. Yet there is much more to the well-known French city than sparkling sand and sun-baked tourists. Plan on exploring Vieux Nice, the city's older part, to get a better taste of what Nice has to offer. For example, the flower market in the Cours Saleya explodes with colors and scents, while on Mondays shoppers and vendors gather for a large antique market.
