The Bishop museum is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., except on Tuesdays. Admission ranges from $14.95 to $17.95 and children under 3 years of age are admitted at no cost. This museum has collected more than 25 million items and historical artifacts covering the history of the Hawaiian Islands and the other South Pacific Islands. It has interactive science displays, with the one about volcanic activity being the most popular with children.
Honolulu Academy of Arts
The Honolulu Academy of Arts focuses on artistic works from prominent artists from the Asia Pacific region. The Honolulu Academy of Arts was inaugurated in April 1927 by Anna Rice Cooke, who stated that the academy's mission was to collect, preserve, interpret and teach the visual arts of the many different cultures that inhabit Hawaii. The Cookes were one of the prominent local families and always had a strong passion for the cataloging and preservation of the different forms of art on the islands. This academy has its own library, gift shop, restaurant and cafe, movie theater, and art center for studio classes and other forms of artistic training. Every last Friday of the month, the Honolulu Academy Arts hosts "Art after Dark", a must see event from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., which draws the most stylish and best looking crowd of Honolulu for a night of entertainment in a cultural atmosphere.
Hawaii State Art Museum
Away from most Oahu homes and in the heart of the downtown area, the Hawaii State Art Museum boasts the largest collection in the world of works from local artists. It focuses on art works from the 1960s and on. The curated collection aims to include relevant pieces of art that contribute to the understanding of Hawaiian culture. This museum is easy to access because it is near major bus stations where several bus lines merge, such as the 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, Express A, Express B and Express C bus routes. The lunch service is outstanding. It is not unusual to see important local businessmen having power lunches with prominent political figures, because major companies and government institutions are located around the downtown area.
