The Club at Black Rock
Jim Engh took what nature offered and made it better when designing Black Rock. This unique course gives up breathtaking lake vistas, bold cliff backdrops, natural-created bunkers and dramatic curves. In 2009 the course was ranked number 27 on Golf Digest's "Top 100 Courses in America," making it a must-do during your visit. A quiet opener, the first hole is a par 4 with a wide fairway for a short approach to a large, rolling green. At hole 3 the adventure begins with a par 5 diving down 180 feet into a naturally-formed valley. A large open-water pond makes number 6 a tough par 4, so the longer your tee shot, the easier the approach. At hole 10, prepare for the rugged nine-hole loop ahead. 15 is an up-grinder, no bunkers and a huge fairway; this par 4 needs power. An uphill run makes for a demanding finish at 18. Coeur d'Alene Golf Club
Ranked number one for "Beauty and Aesthetics" by Golf Digest, the club is home to the world's only floating green. The 15,000-square-foot green has a moveable, playable yardage of 95 to 200 yards. The Scott Miller-designed course plays over 6,803 yards with a par 71. The dog-leg right opening hole is followed by the course's toughest test at hole 2, requiring an unforgiving left-center tee shot. 18 is a par 4 with a long, dog-leg left into prevailing headwinds and several bunkers short of the fairway. Check them out on-line for rates and available tee times.
The Highlands Golf Course
Situated on a hill overlooking Post Falls, this Jim Krause-designed course stretches across 6,369 yards of play with a challenging par 72. It was rated number two by Golf Digest as "Best Bang for Your Buck." The first hole is a risk-reward for a short par 5 with a dog-leg left. The par 4 at 18 isn't an easy task. Their signature par 3 at hole 6 looks easy, but its a short shot over the ravine requiring precision. The par 4 at 9 is the most difficult on the course. Hit your drive down the left side of the fairway because it slopes severely, a tee shot down the middle lands you in the rough. On 18 your tee shot hits blindly over a hill to a fairway with out-of-bounds down the left, sloping away from you.
