New Orleans vacation homes sit near some of the top architectural highlights in the city. If you are lucky you may even be able to stay in an area near one of these architectural wonders.
St. Louis Cathedral
Also known as one of the most well known local and national icons of architecture, this Cathedral is the oldest operating Roman Catholic Cathedral in the United States. The church was dedicated in 1727 to King Louis IX of France. After being rebuilt twice, hundreds of people still flock to this architectural wonder near any New Orleans vacation home. Stained glass and beautiful paintings line the historic walls and along with these come the beautiful architectural styles both in and outside of the cathedral. The front is lit up at night making it an astonishing view, and easy to see all throughout the French Quarter.
Longue Vue House and Gardens
Entrance prices range from $5 to $10 to see this beautiful house and garden. Built by the heir of the Sears dynasty and her husband, this home has not only a beautiful classical style but eight acres of beautifully manicured gardens as well. It was named a National Historic Monument in 2005 and some say it captures the true spirit of the American Renaissance Period. When you visit this house and its gardens, you should also be aware that the home hosts parties, corporate meetings and other events. Your children will love the beautiful hands-on discovery garden that is found surrounding the home.
St. Charles Avenue
Named by various sources as "The Jewel of America's Grand Avenues," this spot offers plenty of things to do and places to see all along the avenue. Check out the monument at Lee Circle, Old South mansions, the Audobon Park, Loyola or Tulane. If you continue all the way to the end of the avenue, you can even see the beautiful architecture of old town Carrollton. Be sure to stop by plenty of churches and cathedrals since this street is dotted with them. Take the tour by foot, car or streetcar to get the most out of the beautiful area.
The Gardens of New Orleans
To see New Orleans architecture from a different view, visit the gardens located all throughout the city. The two most famous are the Besthoff Sculpture Garden and the Botanical Garden, but you can also take a stroll through the beautiful Garden District. The Garden District offers both small and large gardens with plenty of varieties for you to enjoy.
