When looking for your Las Vegas vacation rental, the natural wonders close by were probably not on your radar screen. "Las Vegas" and "natural" are not often used together about this artificial, ersatz-life world famous extravaganza. Las Vegas elevates cliché to an art form and is light years ahead of the rest of the world in doing so. However, to miss out on exploring the fine natural wonders close to Las Vegas vacation rentals would be a big mistake.
Las Vegas is close to marvelous natural wonders and tourists from all round the world flock to vacation rentals in the area to experience them. You can get to them by rental car, short plane trip or by taking advantage of the many excursions offered from Las Vegas.
The Grand Canyon
Although located 300 miles from Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon is simply not to be missed. You have seen the pictures and probably videos but nothing prepares you for the actual experience of this unique natural wonder. Try and make time to visit the North Rim as well as the much more frequented South Rim.
We offer a word of warning to the unfit! It is exciting to hike trails like the Bright Angel Trail to get the Colorado River at the bottom, but the Grand Canyon is an "inverted mountain". You go down then up. You would not be the first to exhaust all your energy going down only to find getting back up is three times as hard.
Death Valley
Located 135 miles from Las Vegas, Death Valley is famous as the hottest place in the world. It is also, at 280 feet below sea level, the lowest point in the USA. From hiking to ranger guided tours and visits to Scotty's Castle, there are ample things to do. A little known fact is that the vertical drop from the highest point of the national park (Telescope Peak) to the lowest (Badwater Basin) is twice that of the Grand Canyon.
