The New Mexico Museum of Art
Built in 1909, the New Mexico Museum of Art is the state's oldest art museum. This museum has over 20,000 art pieces from all over the Southwest. The artwork featured in this collection was created by artists who lived and worked in or were influenced by the region. Although the museum has this very large collection of artwork, it does not display all of the pieces all of the time. The museum's curators select different pieces and constantly change the exhibits on display.
One of the exhibits that the museum has had on display is "Political Outlooks." Artwork featured in this exhibit reflects artists' views about political issues and perspectives that affect New Mexico and the Southwest. This exhibit includes paintings, sculptures and cartoons.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Children 16 and under are admitted for free. Free admission for everyone is available every Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
