An East Hampton Summer Rentals Catalog, and Three Easy Day Trips

East Hampton summer rentals are ideally located in New York on the eastern end of Long Island. You will enjoy this beautiful spot, surrounded by water, bordering the Atlantic Ocean. This charming town is appreciated for its chic and trendy shops, historical sites, beautiful beaches, art galleries, and antique shops all year long.

There are a number of easy day trips near your East Hampton vacation home. Below you will find just a handful of day outings to enjoy not too far from your rental.

1. Marine Museum

If you are interested in learning about this region's history, stop by the Marine Museum for a fun-filled day of educational enjoyment. East Hampton is often referred to as the "Whaling Capital" because the whales are known to frequently beach themselves along these southern shores. At this museum you will enjoy the extensive exhibits of donated whaling artifacts as well as displays of the area's unique fishing techniques.

Marine Museum can be found on Bluff Road, hovering high above the Atlantic Ocean. If you have children, they will enjoy exploring the jungle gym located on the outdoor grounds.

2. Montauk Point Lighthouse and Museum & Gift Shop

Visit New York's oldest lighthouse, over 200 years old, to climb up the iron steps 'round and around; trek up 137 steps to reach the very top for breathtaking views. Admission in to the museum is under $10 for adults and under $5 for children. To climb the tower you must be 12 years of age and at least 41 inches in height.

Take the Museum tour which includes exploring the Double Keepers' Dwelling, Oil Room, Lighthouse Tower, Fog Signal House, Fire Control Station, Look Out Point, Oil House, 1838 Keepers' Dwelling, Meadow, and Turtle Cove Lookout.

Be sure to visit the Museum Gift Shop before leaving to take home a miniature replica of Montauk Point Lighthouse. This Gift Shop also features many Light House memorabilia like wind chimes, shot glasses, mugs, caps, t-shirts, sweatshirts, money clips, key chains, puzzles, books, DVDs', tote bags, pottery, vases, and more.

3. East Hamptons Beaches

No vacation would be complete without enjoying a day trip to one of the many gorgeous local beaches. It is highly recommended to visit a beach with a lifeguard on staff; bathroom facilities are always a plus. Georgica Beach on Lily Pond Land, Main Beach on Ocean Avenue, and Two Mile Hollow Beach on Two Mile Hollow Road all meet both of these requirements. If you are interested in a beach with a snack bar, then Main Beach would be your choice.

It is important to take notice of the flags located on all area beaches. A red flag means it is dangerous to swim or surf while a white flag gives "two thumbs up"; a blue flag will mean caution and if there is no flag at all, then swimming and surfing is not permitted.

All Hamptons beaches open everyday beginning Memorial Day Weekend throughout the summer until the end of Labor Day Weekend.
