When staying in any of the Adirondacks vacation rentals, it is fun to discover several dining options in the area. Often tucked in rustic cabin-like structures or cozy lakeside cottages, restaurants, whether fine dining or casual, are plentiful. Many have lush views of the outdoors and serve their specialties with warm hospitality. Scattered around the different Adirondack rental property regions are some restaurants that give their own twist to the usual and the expected.
High Peaks
When you get into the State Highway 9 and 73 intersections north of Marcy Field, you'll see Cedar Run Bakery & Cafe at the 1023 Cascade Road, Lake Placid. Breakfast and lunch are served inside this log cottage bakery in the woods but what makes this a convenient stop is their Take and Bake menu. They have a good selection of appetizers, soups, pasta entrees, pies and even desserts that you can bring back to your Adirondack rental property to heat in the oven or, in the case of their New York Cheesecake or Sticky Toffee Pudding, just thaw and enjoy. Aki Sushi and Japanese Restaurant at 324 Main Street, Lake Placid, may be a fish out of water in the Adirondacks. Locals, however, are loyal patrons so if you need your sushi fix after a day in the wilderness, call (518) 523-5826 to secure a table in this cozy place. Also in Lake Placid, specifically at 5993 Sentinel Road, is Chair 6. They use certified organic ingredients and serve up different seasonal menus.
Lake George
At 190 Glen Street, Glens Falls, New York south of Lake George, is Aimie's Dinner and Movie. You can combine entertainment with food as you dine on their movie-themed dishes such as Goodfella's Alfredo and Casablanca Chicken and watch whatever feature you choose. Call (518) 792-8181 for reservations. Lake George Dinner Theater at 2223 Canada Street, Rte. 9 Lake George, also offers dinner shows with your meals. You get to choose from one of their four entrees in a theater-like ambiance and watch a comedy show on stage set at about 30 feet from your table. Since the shows run from end of June to October, call (518) 306-4404 to order your tickets.
Blue Mountain Lake
The Lake View Cafe inside the Adirondack Museum may serve sandwiches, soups, salads, some entrees and desserts that can be found in other restaurants but because of its location within the Adirondack Museum compound, you get more than just food there. Discover how the locals of long ago lived in the area by viewing the exhibits housed in different structures. Located at Rt. 28N & 30, Blue Mountain Lake, you'll find other reasons to come here other than for food.
Seaway Region
In the far northwest corner of the Adirondacks, at 6 Elm Street, Potsdam, New York, are the intricately decorated interiors of La Casbah Restaurant. Their Moroccan cuisine adds an interesting flair to the regular eateries in the area and if you drop by on Fridays for dinner, you can enjoy your tagines and kebabs with live music. They're open until 2:00 in the morning but you can call (315) 274-9696 to reserve a table.
