If you are looking for beautiful, unspoiled beaches, they are just steps outside the door of your Corolla vacation rental home. Located in the northeastern-most corner of North Carolina, Corolla is one of the most remote beaches in the state. Until recently most of the land was undeveloped. The only road through Corolla is a windy two-lane highway that lies on a narrow strip of land between the Currituck Sound on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other. Your Corolla rental will give unfettered access to soft sand and great surf.
Beaches in Corolla
While there are no towns north of Corolla, there are miles and miles of white sandy beaches and rolling dunes. This area is known for its Wild Spanish Mustang horses. The horses are often seen galloping through the sand and playing in the water. Much of the area is only accessible by four-wheel-drive vehicles and of course due to wildlife preservation access is very limited. However, you can book a guided tour or take a self-guided tour through an agency like Corolla Wild Horse Adventure to catch a glimpse of the Spanish Mustangs.
You do not need to travel anywhere to enjoy the Corolla beaches. If you happened to have secured an oceanfront vacation rental you will be able to walk out your back door and practically touch the ocean. The homes are protected by huge sand dunes, but just over the dunes are miles and miles of sand as far north and as far south as you can see. The actual ocean is only a few hundred feet in front of you. With its remote location the other beach goers will be your fellow vacation rental guests. During the off-season you may walk for miles along the beach before you bump into another family. While the peak season can get busy, you will never feel like it is crowded in Corolla.
Nearby Beaches
If you prefer more activity on your beaches be sure to travel south to Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills and Kitty Hawk. These towns are a bit more tourist-focused and due to their proximity to the mainland, tend to be a lot more populated. Holding true to the Outer Banks, the beaches remain great places to sun bathe, walk along the surf or enjoy a round of beach volleyball.
Beaches With a View
While you are staying in your Corolla rental be sure to take in one of the many beautiful beaches with a view. From the northern tip of Corolla to the southern-most point of the Outer Banks at Cape Lookout, there are lighthouses peppering the beaches. These lighthouses offer a beautiful backdrop to your beach-going experience. Here is a list of just a few of the lighthouse that you might want to visit.
