Neon Museum

The Neon Museum is a great place to begin your free adventures. This is the graveyard for the historic neon signs from many of the hotels. These hotels are no longer around, but their neon lives on. The museum consists of 10 refurbished signs that are displayed in downtown Las Vegas from Third Street and the Fremont Street Experience to in front of the Neonopolis on Las Vegas Boulevard. The gallery has a variety of the neon giants including Chief Court Motel, The Flame Restaurant, Nevada Hotel, the Hacienda Horse and Rider. Besides the Fremont Gallery, you might also enjoy the Boneyard where you will find more than 150 neon wonders on a three acre area.

CBS Television City Research Center, MGM Grand Hotel

This activity is close to vacation resorts and free to the public. You get a chance to rate shows that have not been on TV but are possibilities for the future. Visitors view and rate the shows. The center is open from 10 am usually until 10 pm. Just drop by and pick up tickets at the front of the center or at the entrance to the parking garage.

The Aquarium at the Silverton Hotel

Where else can you see a mermaid in the desert, and for free? The Silverton offers free admission to the aquarium which is open 24 hours a day. This is an opportunity to view more than 4,000 tropical fish in a 117,000-gallon tank. Mermaids join the fish for a 15 minute show Thursdays through Sundays. Check on current times before you go.

Bellagio

More than 13,500 feet of colorful flowers await travelers at the Bellagio. The extraordinary Bellagio Conservatory display is totally changed with different themes five times a year. The garden is open 24 hours a day, but is closed for a week each time the display is changed. While at the Bellagio, you must see the fountains in front of the hotel. Water shoots more than 400 feet in the air out of an eight and a half acre lake. The choreographed waters dance to music in several different shows.

Volcanoes and Pirates

Just a walk down the strip from the Bellagio you will find volcanoes and pirates. Located in front of the Mirage hotel from dusk to 11 pm, a volcano that has water, fire and all the sound effects to go with it including music shoots off. Just next door at the Treasure Island hotel are the pirates. This stunt show, Sirens of TI, has fireworks, flames, cannons and sinking ships. Shows run daily at 5:30, 7:00, 8:30 and 10:00 pm.

Fremont Street Experience

Not far from Las Vegas resorts is the Fremont Street Experience, where you will enjoy the neon and the walk along the promenade. You will find free entertainment and the light and sound show. This is five city blocks of entertainment. More than two million lights are used to create the effects on a screen canopy above what was once the street. This experience is free and begins at dusk. Shows run on the hour until midnight.
