Stewart Beach

A family-oriented beach, located at 6th Street and Seawall Boulevard. This beach is open from March through September, and in October it is open only during the weekends. In the summer, the beach is open until 7 pm. There are paid parking spaces, but there is no entry fee for the beach. This beach is alcohol free and has a lot of activities to keep the children occupied. There is a park for the kids; there's also a mini golf course and water slides. During summer, this beach hosts a variety of events that include volleyball, sandcastle building tournaments and occasionally there are bands playing. General beach amenities such as chairs, tents and umbrellas are available for rent. There are toilets and hot water showers available at the bath houses. It is not rare to find washed up seaweed on the beach. You can rent space in this beach for throwing a party or wedding. There are a few souvenir shops and restaurants lining Stewart beach. You can also find lifeguards and security, and the beach is accessible for the disabled.

East Beach

Situated at the eastern end of Galveston, this is the biggest beach in Texas and famous for its parties. Alcohol is allowed on this beach. It hosts a lot of events including bikini contests, outdoor concerts and special event promotions. You can find a live band playing during most weekends in summer; check the event calendar to make sure you don't miss the biggest parties. They have a large car park, and you can rent chairs and umbrellas. There are also gift shops and eateries lining the beach. East Beach is disabled friendly, with lifeguards and security.

Galveston Beach State Park

This beach was wrecked by Hurricane Ike in 2008. There is a campsite here; you need to register with the Park office and pay for usage. It offers a wide array of educational tours, including a beach walk, bay watch and tours of the flora and fauna. You can also try surf fishing here. There are hiking and biking trails, and you can go for a swim in the waters. Check with the park authorities for guided tours. The weather is suitable for kite flying. This beach is best avoided during rains.

Seawall Beach

The beach is along the seawall, which stretches from 61st Street to 10th Street, and it is the most popular tourist beach. The concrete walls of the seawall are painted with beautiful murals by children and illustrate the underwater life. There is ample free parking available. Between May and September, the water is great for a swim and the sand is perfect for building sand castles. You can rent umbrellas, chairs, boogie boards and outdoor pavilions. Surfing can be done in summer; you can either get your own surfboard or rent one from the several surfboard shops along the beach. There are also water crafts available for rent. Alcohol is not permitted, and there are lifeguards at this beach. Also, you can find Port-o-let toilets located throughout the beach.
