Island Tours Near Your Galveston Rental Condo

While enjoying your Galveston rental condo, take time to explore one of the most popular and beautiful vacation destinations in Texas, located on the Gulf of Mexico. Only about an hour from Houston, Galveston is easily accessible and connected to the mainland by a bridge. This historic city has many lovely old Victorian homes, unique little shops, and seafood restaurants serving delicious local dishes. Galveston has attractions that you won't want to miss, especially if it's your first visit. Galveston was founded in 1786 by Jose de Evia. One of Galveston's earliest residents was the infamous pirate, Jean Lafitte. Galveston has 32 miles of lovely beaches and attractions for every member of the family.

Galveston Duck Tours

One of the more unusual ways to see Galveston is on a Duck Tour. The duck travels 40 blocks over Seawall Boulevard, then splashes into Offats Bayou for a cruise. Upon leaving the bayou, the tour proceeds to the famous "Strand," a historic district which is worth seeing by itself. On the Strand you'll find interesting little shops and restaurants. You can easily spend an entire day in the district. The tour ends back at Seawall Boulevard. The tour is narrated, and you'll learn interesting and sometimes funny facts about the island and its fascinating residents.

Aerial Tours

Air Tours of Galveston Island offers thirty to forty minute aerial tours of the island where you can fly over the beautiful beaches, the ship channel, and Bolivar Peninsula. On the return trip, you'll fly over some of Galveston's most historic homes and major attractions, including Moody Gardens.

Ghost Tours of Galveston

Whether or not you believe in the paranormal, a ghost tour is an unusual way to learn about historic events that occurred in the past on Galveston. Dash Beardsley, a very interesting guy and local musician, is the founder of Ghost Tours of Galveston. Dash has spent years researching the history of the island and the many spirits who are left behind. Dash, also known as "The Ghostman of Galveston" provides insight into the events that have made Galveston one of the most haunted places in the United States. You'll learn about the tragic deaths in the Great Storm of 1900, and learn about Civil War soldiers who died on the island and reputedly still haunt some of the old buildings. You may just end up being a believer.

Storm and Recovery Tour

Galveston Island Tours, in conjunction with the Galveston Historical Foundation, is now offering a tour explaining Galveston's unpredictable climate and how the island has recovered in the face of disasters, including the tragic Great Storm of 1900, the 1915 Storm, and more recently Hurricane Carla and Hurricane Ike. Professional guides drive visitors to various destinations on the island, explaining the effects to historic sites, the beaches, how weather conditions have affected the population, and recovery efforts. Part of the proceeds of this tour benefit the Galveston Historical Foundation.
