2. South Whidbey Island State Park
South Whidbey Island is a camping park that sits on 347 acres of land and has 4,500 feet of saltwater coastline that is good for swimming, kayaking or boating. Hikers will really enjoy this park because it has many trails that wind through the forested areas. Many of the hiking trails end on some of the park's higher altitudes, which boast views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. Wildlife lovers can also enjoy the hiking trails, because the park's forests contain deer, elk and foxes. Along the coastline, wildlife lovers can see the park's otters, starfish, sea cucumbers and crabs. South Whidbey Island State Park opens at 8:00 a.m. and closes at dusk. Park admission is free.
3. Camano Island State Park
With 52 miles of coastline, this park offers year round saltwater fishing. It is also a good place for clamming, and the beach is great for beach combing. Visitors can go scuba diving and swimming along the coastline.
Further inland the park has 134 acres of wooded areas and campsites, and a five-mile hiking trail. Hikers on the trail have the opportunity to see various plants and animals as well as the scenic views of the surrounding area. This park has a picnic area, a kitchen and public restrooms. Campsite and kitchen reservations are required. Camano Island State Park is open from dawn to dusk and admission is free.
